VSTOP PROST!
Flora Marlene Geißelbrechtje mlada avstrijska skladateljica, instrumentalistka, improvizatorka in pesnica. RSO Vienna, Ensemble Modern, Black Page Orchestra, Studio Dan, na festivalih Wien Modern, Unsafe and Sounds Festival, Impuls Festival in Wiener Festwochen.
Izdala je tri avtorske albume: Crying Games, Taste of Silence in cmok v grlu. Nastopa solo in v raznih zasedbah s številnimi glasbeniki: Tomaž Grom, Lee Patterson, Xavier Charles, Christof Kurzmann, Jonas Kocher, Gaudenz Badrutt, Šalter Ensemble, Tim Blechmann, Michael Zerang, Liz Allbee, Alessandra Eramo, Ilia Belorukov, Okkyung Lee, Maja Osojnik, Christian Kesten, Ina Puntar, Dré Hočevar, Matej Bonin in drugimi.

Irena Tomažin Zagoričnik (SI) - voice
Flora Marlene Geißelbrecht (AT)- viola, voice
Friday, 8. September 2023 at 21:00, Galerija ŠKUC, Ljubljana
Topographies of Sound and the Alcedo Institute invite you to a joint concert programme, which will include a performance of solo original and improvised works by both musicians, the first meeting of two diverse sensibilities in free improvisation, and in particular the echoes and sonorities of their joint explorations, during a one-day pre-preparation in Ljubljana and a concert performance at the ŠKUC Gallery. By the very nature of things, it will therefore be an open-ended process of a concert in the making. Special emphasis will be given to the so-called "sound poetry" of the Viennese Dadaist Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948) or his work Ursonate (1932) with its starting point in the interpretation of Flora Geißelbrecht (Ur die Sonate, 2021), which has not been often heard live in the Slovenianmusic space. The musical and interdisciplinary interaction between word, language and voice, to which Geißelbrecht also pays special attention, will meet with Tomažin’s distinctive voice explorations, which adds the specific dimension of the movement element in the context of the concert. It is a meeting of two voices and bodies through disembodiments and re-embodiments of bodies in both physical and sonic space.
Flora Marlene Geißelbrecht is a young Austrian composer, instrumentalist, improviser and poet. Her creativity focuses on contemporary experimental music, with a special focus on the musical and interdisciplinary interaction between word, language and voice. She also works in the field of contemporary jazz, singer-songwriting, folk music and free improvisation. As a composer, she writes music for orchestras, chamber ensembles and solo compositions, and her works have been commissioned and premiered at festivals such as Styriarte or Donaufestwochen in Strudengau, and by performers such as Ensemble Kontrapunkte, Ensemble Reconsil or the Arnold Schönberg Choir. She has received several awards for her work, including the Berlin Prize for Young Artists in 2021 with her solo programme "Sibyls&Syllables" for viola and voice. As a violist, she has performed with solo programmes and in various ensembles such as RSO Vienna, Ensemble Modern, Black Page Orchestra, Studio Dan, at the Wien Modern, Unsafe and Sounds Festival, Impuls Festival and Wiener Festwochen. In 2020/21 she was also a member of the international ensemble of the Modern Academy in Frankfurt. Her sonic explorations are located in the intersections and consonances of voice and viola sound, in the intense and subtle in-betweens, explorations of extended playing and vocalising techniques through which voice and instrument resonate as a unified body of sound through sonic textures.
Irena Z. Tomažin is one of the most recognisable voices in the field of experimental music, contemporary dance and performance. Her embodiments and disembodiments of the voice are embedded in the field between sound, body, movement and space and resonate in the fields of contemporary dance and performance, free improvisation, embodiments of texts in poetry and sound poetry and graphic notations, in resurrections of the voices of folk singing, in contemporary classical music, in electroacoustic in-betweens, alternative bands, solo projects and ad-hoc ensembles. She has released three albums: Crying Game, Taste of Silence, and Lump in the Throat. Her music, more specifically her sound experimentation is an exploration of the landscapes of voice that include words, fragments of texts, (traditional) melodic singing, and other vocal techniques, including humming, clicking, and other sounds made with the mouth that pertain not (only) to the voice but also to the body. Irena performs solo and with a variety of ensembles and musicians such as Tomaž Grom, Lee Patterson, Xavier Charles, Christof Kurzmann, Jonas Kocher, Gaudenz Badrutt, Šalter Ensemble, Tim Blechmann, Michael Zerang, Liz Allbee, Alessandra Eramo, Ilia Belorukov, Okkyung Lee, Maja Osojnik, Christian Kesten, Ina Puntar, Dré Hočevar, Matej Bonin, and others.
The event is a prelude to the upcoming edition of the international festival Topographies of Sound. More about the upcoming festival soon!!!!
