31. literarno-glasbeni festival ŽIVA KNJIŽEVNOST

The 31st Literary and Music Festival Living Literature

Svoja razmišljanja in prevode nam bodo predstavili s skupinskim nastopom v obeh jezikih.

Sledili bodo gosti s treh celin, literatka Julia Sarachu iz Argentine, vsestranski umetnik David Odiase iz Nigerije in književnik Petar Andonovski iz Severne Makedonije.

Štirje večeri bodo posvečeni domači literaturi. Letos bodo brali in razkrili svoje avtopoetike pesnica Nataša Velikonja, pesnik Sergej Harlamov, prozaistka Ajda Bračič in dramatičarka Tjaša Mislej.

Prisluhnili bomo instrumentalnemu folku, elektroniki, diy minimalističnemu spajanju zvokov, rocku, bolj igrivemu in bolj mračnemu kantavtorskemu muziciranju. Z nami bodo Dojaja, Petra Onderufová & Aleksander Kuzmić (Wild Strings Duo), Vraževerje, Niko Novak, Iztok Koren, Muzikačaka, Kiki in Bregove dere.

Kmalu ga skupaj z DJ Bizzyjem k sodelovanju povabi DJ Umek in pod imenom Absense team (kasneje preimenovanim v Consumer Recreation) kot rezidenti nastopajo v klubu K4 .

Eigengrau je novi glasbeni projekt Iztoka Turka in Petra Jenka, v okviru katerega ustvarjata ambientalno elektroniko s pridihom techna in duba.

Dojaja is one of the few Slovenian DJs who is a professional musician, known for his collaborations with DJ Umek, Laibach, Katja Šulc, Niplodok, Space Orchestra and Ago Tela. But not many people know that he is a big fan of disco music and owns an extensive and diverse collection of LPs, which he has been compiling since he was a child. His main influences (including on his musical path) are undoubtedly the pioneers who have made a lasting impression on him: Joy Division, New Order, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, etc. He has performed alongside big names such as Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Slater, Rush, Vladislav Delay and others. He made his first public appearance in 1995 and became a resident DJ in club Palma only one year later. Soon after, he and DJ Bizzy were invited to collaborate with DJ Umek under the name of Absense team (later known as Consumer Recreation), which became the resident collective at club K4.

Eigengrau is a new musical project of Iztok Turk and Peter Jenko, creating ambient electronic music with a hint of techno and dub. Their creative process oscillates between technological excess and asceticism, and digital and analogue. Close your eyes and say what colour their music is.

Nataša Velikonja

Vodi / Hosted by: Nina Dragičević

Glasba / Music: Niko Novak

Nataša Velikonja, sociologist, poet, essayist, translator, lesbian activist. She has published seven books of poetry: in 1994, the Škuc publishing house released her first poetry collection Abonma (Subscription), which is considered the first openly lesbian book of poetry in Slovenia. She is the author of six books of essays and scientific papers, analysing the intertwinement of artistic, cultural, political and sociosexual realities; her writing is a reflection of her countercultural, lesbian-feminist perspective. She is the winner of the Župančič Award (2016), the KONS International Literary Award (2018) and the Jenko Award (2022).

Niko Novak is an all-around artist but essentially a musician, who has left his mark on the Slovenian scene as a member of the Dicky B. Hardy band and the legendary duo Incurabili. He then pursued a solo career, releasing a total of six albums. The online magazine Nova muska believes that he is the Slovenian Johnny Cash, while Radio Študent called him the Slovenian Leonard Cohen. But Niko is his own person and pays no attention to labels. He is a poet of the life on the wild side, affirming his individuality by copying only himself. He is now Slovenia’s most distinct singer-songwriter with a deep voice, reverberating to the accompaniment of an electric bass. His markedly minimalist music veiled in mystery is charged with emotions, emanating from a simple but effective combination of robust bass lines, raw vocals and evocative verses. In 2023 he released the album Ambition to Help Is a Killer, produced by Chris Eckman.

Muzikačaka je one-woman-looper-band Sare Korošec. Z looperjem v živo spleta tapiserijo zvoka. Skozi glasbo premišljuje, si zamišljuje svet in nenehno išče skupni jezik periferije in centra, jezik preteklosti in prihodnosti, samote in nasičenosti ter nemoči in boja.

Muzikačaka is Sara Korošec’s one-woman-looper-band. She uses a looper to create a tapestry of sound in her live performances. She layers and loops vocals, piano and electronics, conceiving a landscape similar to the stratified hills of Haloze. Her songs combine the elements of avant-pop, poetic storytelling, trance loops and ambient textures, intertwining in a contemplative sonoric experience. She uses music to contemplate, think up the world, constantly in search of a language common to the periphery and the centre, the language of the past and the future, of loneliness and saturation, of helplessness and fighting.

Singer-songwriter KiKi, described by Radio Študent as “a sorceress of intimate narratives”, made an appearance at this year’s MENT Festival in Ljubljana. Her songs are slightly odd and at times dark, but full of lyricism and beautiful harmonies. Last year KiKi released her first album KRiKi, which you can found on all streaming platforms to see if it can really be classified as “magical folk pop”.

Erotični večer, pesniško-glasbeni performens / An erotic night, poetry and music performance

Maja Vidmar, Barbara Korun, Alja Adam

Glasba / Music: Gregor Zemljič

Pesniško-glasbeni performans prepleta organsko glasbo in poetično besedo. Maja Vidmar (poezija), Barbara Korun (poezija), Alja Adam (poezija), Gregor Zemljič (glasba)

The performance is an intertwinement of organic music and poetry. It highlights erotic content that travels through various soundscapes and remoulds itself in the moment of experience, in the presence and interrelations between the performers.

Maja Vidmar (poetry), Barbara Korun (poetry), Alja Adam (poetry), Gregor Zemljič (music)

Petar Andonovski

Vodi / Hosted by: Sašo Puljarević

Bere / Reading: Rok Kravanja

Glasba / Music: Bregove dere

Petar Andonovski, rojen leta 1987 v Kumanovu, spada v mlajšo generacijo makedonskih avtorjev.

Petar Andonovski, born in 1987 in Kumanovo, belongs to the younger generation of Macedonian authors. He graduated at the Department of General and Comparative Literature of the SS. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje and made his literary debut with the poetry collection Менталенпростор (A Space of Contemplation, 2008). Although he has since switched to prose, his style is poetic and minimalist, focusing mainly on the intimate sphere and combining short form and dense, charged atmospheres. He has published five novels: Очисобојаначевли (Eyes in the Colour of Shoes, 2013), Телотовокоетребадасеживее (A Body to Live In, 2015), for which he received the Macedonian Novel of the Year Award, Страводварвари (Fear of Barbarians, 2018), which won him the EU Prize for Literature, Летово kоетенема (The Summer Without You 2020) and Некажувам (I Won’t Tell, 2023). The Summer Without You is the author’s first translation into Slovenian and is considered to be the first openly gay novel in Macedonian literature.

Bregove dere

Bregove dere

The group’s beginnings date back to 2018, when ideas began to burgeon in what was, at the time, the solo project of Matjaž, who decided to veer away from his then main group Meduzalem. The core idea was the concept of acoustic and more organic music consisting of classic guitar, drums, bass and percussion. matjaž released his first solo EP Tok misli ogledalo. Soon after, he was joined by drummer Robi, a member of Zlatko Kaučič’s Kombo C. The duo created the basis for at least five longer compositions. Later they were joined by Matej on the electric guitar, bringing with him a variety of harmony and sound. After a long search for a bass player, the band invited Timi, who had played alongside Robi in several groups (e.g. Kavasutra). The quartet started working on their first songs for recording and live performances. At the suggestion of a guest musician, they group was completed by violinist Jure, Matjaž’s former bandmate in Suisound and the original Meduzalem. In its current form, the music of Bregove dere is assuming the organic shape of a creature awakening, taking its time and space to breathe. The Band: Matjaž (classic guitar, vocals), Robi (drums), Matej (electric guitar), Timi (bass guitar), Jure (violin)

This year's Living Literature Festival is dedicated to Damjan Bizilj aka DJ Bizzy who passed away last year.

Damjan Bizilj aka DJ Bizzy (1972–2023) became a member of DJ Umek's Absense team (later Consumer Recreation) in 1995. Influenced by DJ Umek he soon developed his own specific DJ and production style. He played at many big parties with well-known DJs, such as Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer, Marco Carola, Chris Liebing, DJ Rush, etc. With DJ Dojaja, they started producing their own music in 1998 under the alias Temponauta and created their own record label Temponautika. DJ Bizzy was a vinyl junkie and played on three turntables with FX for many years. His turntable DJ-ing spanned styles such as techno, electro, electro house, cliks'n'cuts'n'minimal'n'dub'n'ambiental'n'nameit. Agglomerating turntables and computer (efx and many digital instruments), using many different approaches with real-time producing, greatly upgraded his performance and brought us a new, fresh idea of a DJ becoming a nonconventional DJ live act ... Bizzy was also the founder of movements, such as Astrodisco, Unizzon, Dataminions, Ouroborots, Rotor (The rotors – Phonophobia) and Chilli space, among others. Damjan Bizilj also collaborated with one of the most recognizable Slovenian musical groups, Laibach.
